“Don’t Worry, Be Happy” by Bobby McFerrin is today’s pick from the Divine Communication Jukebox.
Have you ever actually tried to just say out loud what you really want?
We get trained pretty early to internalize our wants and needs, and if we do talk about our deepest desires, we’re very careful about where we are and who we’re with if we do.
I’ve had the Universe laugh at me a few times in my life, when I’ve had the gumption to speak my wants out loud.
I was living by myself (contentedly divorced), had just turned 34, had paid off my one acre fenced property and little junky trailer house. I was working the graveyard shift.
A storm came through one day while I was sleeping, and I woke up to the sound of the metal siding peeling off my house. Being my father’s daughter, I cursed roundly while grabbing some nails and a hammer, and headed out to tack it back on.
Unfortunately, nails are hard to hammer in when your surface is trying to blow away in a gale force wind. So, I tried the screw gun and some screws. Same problem.
As I stood out in those 97 mile-an-hour winds, I yelled out “All right, God, I WANT a man here who can fix this!!”
Finally I got the idea of using duct tape to stick my siding back on so I could get a little sleep, and that did work.
Not a month later, I called an old friend to chat, and she mentioned that she’d kicked her husband of 17 years out, and gave me his number. Within a year, he and I had gotten married and his older daughter was staying with us.
We’ve stayed married now for 21 years, and he still fixes all the stuff around the house. He’s been teaching our son how to fix things since he was around 4, and between the two of them, I shouldn’t have to ever get out in the wind to tack things together ever again.
It wasn’t an instant answer like some people get, but it’s definitely been a long-term solution!
Try it today for yourself. Think about what it is that you REALLY want.
Say it out loud.
If you’re not comfortable with someone else hearing you, go in your own room and close the door first.
Write it on your calendar. Then let it fly!
And let me know when it comes to you. Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that whatever you truly want WILL come to you.
Probably when you least expect it, and very likely in a form you can’t predict.
Be safe and well, have a blessed day, and most of all “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”!
